Thomas v. AFSCME, District Council 37
CASE SUMMARY
The Fairness Center represents Moeleek Thomas, a traffic enforcement agent for the NYPD who resigned from his union, AFSCME, District Council 37. However, his resignation went ignored, while the City of New York continued to take union dues from his paycheck. Union officials have never recognized Mr. Thomas’s resignation, although eight months later, the City finally stopped taking union dues from his paycheck. Mr. Thomas brings this lawsuit to vindicate his constitutional rights not to be forced to be associated with or to financially support a union.
