July 22, 2024: “‘I see in this union the kind of anti-Semitism that my family suffered while they were trapped in the Soviet Union,’ said plaintiff Avraham Goldstein, a CUNY mathematics professor. ‘I want no part of this organization, but the law says I have no escape. I must accept its representation, no matter how it treats Jews.’”

May 30, 2024: “A teacher in the Elk Grove School District…filed a federal lawsuit against his National Education Association affiliate for allegedly violating his Title VII civil rights. The suit alleged that the [EGEA] formed a seat only available to candidates of color, meaning Newman wasn’t eligible.”

April 2, 2024: “New legal documents filed recently in an ongoing union corruption case…say officials funneled $1.8 million into a trust fund that’s yet to be recovered. [They] then destroyed evidence of its existence. The lawsuit…accused the treasurer of the local chapter of the Pennsylvania State Corrections Officers Association of misappropriating $20,000.”

How we exposed corruption in Pa.’s corrections union

March 18, 2024: “The Second Circuit Court of Appeals has ruled that six [CUNY] professors must accept the representation of a union that they believe hates them. The ruling affirmed a lower court’s dismissal of a lawsuit challenging a public-sector union’s “exclusive representation” of the professors’ bargaining unit, citing precedent that can only be overturned by the U.S. Supreme Court. The plaintiffs plan to give the High Court that opportunity.”

February 23, 2024: “The lawsuit, filed in May 2021 by the Fairness Center, accuses Council 13 of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, or AFSCME, of violating its duty of fair representation when it negotiated an unfavorable settlement without the consent of the worker it involved, Penny Gustafson.”

February 21, 2024: “But this past summer, TribLive reported that the state police had arrested five former state corrections union officials on felony theft charges. Who did they allegedly steal from? The union — which means thousands of dues-paying members who staff prisons across the commonwealth. For many, this was a shocking betrayal of trust. But for us, it was no surprise.”

Veteran CT teacher claims in lawsuit he was punished for criticizing district DEI initiative

Hartford Courant

January 22, 2024: “A group of City University of New York (CUNY) professors are suing a teachers union they say promotes antisemitism, waging a legal battle in which they believe the Supreme Court could be their “‘only hope.'”

January 19, 2024: “Pro-union laws (like the Taylor Law) gave them the power of exclusive representation, meaning that disaffected workers couldn’t represent themselves or form a different union. This is an attack on individual liberty to boost the power of an interest group.”

January 13, 2024: “The suit contends that when Grande was critical of the professional development program he was punished, in violation of his first amendment rights. The suit, filed in U.S. District Court, asks for erasure of the discipline, as well as financial compensation and legal fees.”
