Garcia v. New York State United Teachers
CASE SUMMARY
The Fairness Center filed a federal civil rights lawsuit on behalf of Lynne Garcia, a teacher aide who resigned from New York State United Teachers (“NYSUT”) in October 2020. Although Ms. Garcia resigned her union membership, the union and her employer continued to take union dues from her paychecks. Ms. Garcia brings this lawsuit to enforce her constitutional rights not to be associated with or to financially support a union against her will.
