Paparone-Donadio v. AFSCME, District Council 37
CASE SUMMARY
The Fairness Center represents Crystal Paparone-Donadio, a substance abuse prevention and intervention specialist for the New York City Department of Education, who resigned from her union, AFSCME, District Council 37. But her resignation went ignored, while the City of New York continued to take union dues from her paycheck. Union officials have never recognized Ms. Paparone-Donadio’s resignation, although eight months later, the City finally stopped taking union dues from her paycheck. Ms. Paparone-Donadio brings this lawsuit to vindicate her constitutional rights not to be forced to be associated with or to financially support a union.
